The Vanishvili family church stands in Patara Ateni village of Gori Municipality. Sagvareulo in Georgian means belonging to a clan: such churches were built and kept by one family, and it is the relatives who revere them most.
The village lies in the Ateni gorge, in the valley of the Tana river south of Gori. A salotsavi of the same family stands half a kilometre away, with the John the Baptist church and the St. Barbara church nearby.
The church can be approached at any time. Candles and modest offerings are left here, gifts of others are not touched, and the place deserves careful treatment.
