The church stands at Trekhvi near Mekheti village in the west of Shida Kartli and is dedicated to the Virgin: Mariamtsminda is the Georgian name of St. Mary.
The area lies south of Kareli, beyond the Kura valley, in the hills. The village should not be confused with Metekhi near Kaspi: the names are alike, but these are different places at opposite ends of Shida Kartli.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and the interior deserves careful treatment.
