The place is known as Vardis Tsikhe, Varderi Amrots in Armenian: tsikhe and amrots mean fortress in both languages. The place is at the same time marked as a Christian sanctuary, so both designations are given.
The rise lies northeast of Varevani village, above the surrounding fields of Javakheti. The plateau and the distant volcanic cones of the Samsari range are visible from here.
The climb is short but runs over grass and stones, so wear closed shoes. The wind on the open ground is strong even in the warm months.
