The church of St. George stands in Chunchkha, a Javakheti village of Akhalkalaki municipality, among open plateaus at a height where summer is short and the sky is wide.

Akhalkalaki is about eleven kilometres away. The area is rich in churches: seven or eight kilometres off lies Alastani with the church of the Catholic community, and a little further the village of Kotelia with a church of its own.

The shrine can be approached at any time; follow the coordinates. In the working church keep quiet and dress modestly.

    This is a profoundly touching and peaceful destination. Constructed in the 1830s from beautiful local stone, the church has a rich history, having endured years of neglect during the Soviet period before being carefully restored for worship. The moment you enter, you can sense its remarkable warmth and comfort. The nearby village is just as delightful, providing a genuine and serene insight into life in the Georgian countryside. It's a must-visit if you're in the area.

    This is definitely one of the best villages to explore. The church faced many struggles, including attempts by Communists to destroy it, as they repurposed it into a warehouse. However, after Georgia distanced itself from Communism, the church was restored and is now functional again.

    XIX საუკუნის სტილში აშენებული ტაძარი, რომელიც 1835 წელს დაარსდა. კედლები თითქმის ერთნაირი სიმაღლისაა და ადგილობრივი თლილი ქვითაა ნაშენები. წყობა სწორია. სამხრეთის კედელში შესასვლელია, მარცხნივ კი დიდი ფანჯარა. მსგავსი ფანჯარა აღმოსავლეთ ფასადზეც არის. არც ფანჯრები, არც შესასვლელი არ აქვთ გაფორმება, ისე როგორც მთლიანად ფასადები. ტაძარი დახურულია ლორფინით. არ ჩანს სიძველის ნიშნები, თუ არ ჩავთვლით აღმოსავლეთით პატარა ქვაზე თითქმის შეუმჩნეველ რელიეფს - “დანიელი ლომების ხაროში”, რომლის დათარიღება მისი სიმარტივის გამო რთულია.
