The church stands beside the Agara nasoplari, on the site of a deserted village. The building has survived better than the households, of which almost nothing remains.
The Agara monastery near the village of Uraveli stands about a kilometre away. The area belongs to Akhaltsikhe Municipality, to its southern mountainous part. Deserted villages are numerous in Meskheti: part of the population left during the twentieth century, and only churches and hillside terraces recall the settlements.
Photography inside is best agreed with whoever looks after the church. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
