Lamaria is the Svan name of the Mother of God, and this church carries it as a second title. It stands between the villages of Tsaldashi and Zhabeshi, in the upper part of the Mulakhi valley.

The area is rich in shrines: a little over two kilometres away stand the church of the Saviour and the St. George church of Tsaldashi, and a little further the church of St. George in Chvabiani. The Mulakhi villages with their towers are well seen from the surrounding slopes.

The church can be approached at any time; follow the coordinates. If you are walking between the villages, the shrine is easy to see on the way.

A must-visit if you're in this part of Svaneti. The journey to get there can be quite challenging, but the locals will help guide you. It's the tiniest church I've ever seen, with honeycombs on the icons that you can taste—completely safe. The incense creates a perfect atmosphere for relaxation as you take in the icy mountains, listen to nature, and make flower crowns. It's truly a spiritual experience. Just be prepared for a tough road, and make sure to bring enough water.
