The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin and is locally called dedaghvtisa, literally mother of God. Small chapels of this kind were raised in Racha beside the parish church, so that one could pray when no service was held.
Kvedi lies in the upper Rioni, nine kilometres east of Oni. The Trinity church of the same village stands about seven hundred metres away, a second Trinity church of the district four kilometres to the west. Further down the valley stretch Sorgiti and Pipileti with churches of St. George of their own.
Chapels of this kind are rarely locked and can be approached at any hour. Candles are left where they stand and are not moved. The road is a mountain one and softens between seasons, so dry days are the better choice. Kvedi lies in the uplands, where snow lasts longer than down the valley at Oni.
