The house is dedicated to St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia. Monasteries in her name stand across the country, and in Racha such houses are usually small: a few buildings, a wall and a yard where life goes by its own order.
Agara lies eight kilometres from Ambrolauri, in the hills above the Rioni valley. The church of the same village stands very close, about three hundred metres away, and the church of Cheliaghele a kilometre. Further on come the church of Tskadisi, the Chelishi monastery and the church of Kviriketsminda. Mind the name: the Agara of Racha is not the one in Shida Kartli.
The usual rules apply in the house: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf and skirt for women, quiet in the yard. Photography inside is not always welcome. The grounds are open, yet daytime is the better hour to come, when the house keeps its ordinary order.
