The church is dedicated to St. George and stands in the village of Tskadisi. The name of the village sounds beside the dedication in two languages, yet the dedication itself is the same in both and there is no discrepancy here.

Tskadisi lies seven kilometres from Ambrolauri, in the hills above the valley. Neighbours are close enough: the church of St. Kvirike at Kviriketsminda about three kilometres away, the church of Agara three and a half, the house of St. Nino of the same district four, the church of Cheliaghele five.

The church is a village one, services are not held every day, yet it can always be approached. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside. The road from Ambrolauri is short, and the last stretch runs along a slope and softens in the rain. The district is thick with shrines, and several can be seen in one trip.

📍 In brief

  • A church dedicated to St. George

  • The house of St. Nino stands four kilometres away

This small church is situated close to the lovely village of Tskadisi, along the road to Skhartali. It's my favorite spot in lower Racha so far.

In the 19th century, there was a large church here, but it was destroyed by the Bolsheviks. A few years back, someone from Tskadisi rebuilt the small church that stands today.

The area is fascinating, especially because of its unique tombs. The carved stone sculptures of the tombs are unlike anything else in Georgia, in my opinion.

Overall, it's a charming place to take a moment and enjoy the good vibes, particularly in autumn.
