The complex bears the name of the Virgin cross and is marked as the upper one: that is how it is told apart from the other shrines of Shatili. Jvari means cross in Georgian, and in the mountains the word stands for a whole shrine, not just a sign.
The place lies on the slope beside the Annunciation church and the Angelozi shrine. It opens a view over the towers of Shatili and the Argun gorge.
Approach the structures carefully and do not touch the stones: such places are especially revered in Khevsureti. Viewing from a distance is free.
