The church is known by the name Machkhani and stands by Tsodoreti village. It is mentioned as the church of St Theodore Tyro as well, a soldier martyr whose name few Georgian churches carry.
The district here is a monastic one: the house of St Basil the Great stands about a kilometre and a hundred metres away, the monastery of Lelobi by Tabaruki a kilometre and a hundred and fifty, and the ruins of the Tsodoreti church two kilometres off. Hills lie all around, and all three shrines are seen from one road.
The entrance is not adapted for wheelchairs, which is worth knowing in advance. The rules are the usual ones: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet, photography inside by permission. The three neighbouring houses are conveniently walked in half a day.
