The church stands in Kvemo Nakalakari village. The name of the village itself speaks of the past: nakalakari in Georgian means the site where a town once was, and kvemo means lower.
The site stands apart: more than three kilometres from here to the Magraneti shrines, the Marian church and the ruins of the old church, and almost five to the Kvelatsminda church at Badaani. Hills lie all around, and the villages here are scattered.
The church is rural and its gates are opened by arrangement, and the village will point you to the right person. The rules are the usual ones: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. The tracks between the villages are country ones, so set out in daylight.
