The Kopala cross complex stands near Akusho village in Dusheti Municipality. It is not a single church but a shrine of the mountain type: the complex holds a hall, two service buildings and a tower.
Such an arrangement is characteristic of highland Georgia, where a shrine lives as a small homestead: a prayer room, a tower and service buildings for community feasts all stand on one fenced plot.
The complex is assigned to the Middle Ages and lists it as a cultural heritage monument, and the walls and apse have come down to us. Two more complexes of the same kind stand nearby, of the cross of the Virgin Mary and the cross of Saint George, so all three can be covered on one walk.
