The house of the Dormition of the Mother of God stands in Abano village, and it is mentioned as the church of the Dormition as well. The Dormition is kept in Georgian villages at the end of summer, and this dedication more often belongs to monasteries than to small parishes.
The monastery of the Twelve Apostles stands only eight hundred and forty metres away: both Abano houses are seen from one road and are walked in an hour. The Lower Trinity church of Suatisi lies three kilometres off, and beyond it there are no shrines in this mountain country for tens of kilometres.
The rules are monastic: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet, photography by permission. The road here is a mountain one and drifts over in winter, so it is better to come in the warm season and in daylight.
