The house museum of writer Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani is located in Tandzia village, Bolnisi Municipality, Kvemo Kartli, among the museums of the region. The museum opened in 1984 in the ancestral estate where the Georgian writer, scholar and diplomat Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani lived and worked. The exhibition holds memorial objects, documentary materials and personal belongings, including original manuscripts of literary works and early printed books.
Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani is known for extensive diplomatic work bringing Georgia closer to Western Europe, as well as a rich literary legacy of fable collections, dictionaries and prose. The grounds of the museum complex preserve the ruins of a late 17th-century church.
According to visitor reviews, the estate retains an authentic sense of its era, though the grounds aren't always kept as tidily as one might hope: this lends the place a distinctive, slightly time-frozen character, but visitors should expect a modest, not perfectly manicured setting.
