The church ruins lie in the hills of Tetritskaro Municipality, far from inhabited villages. There is no roof, the walls have collapsed unevenly, and the plan of the building reads only from close up.
The church of the deserted village of Gulkhandisi is marked about four kilometres away. The northern part of the Tetritskaro area is wooded and thinly settled: several villages here emptied out during the last century, while their churches remained. The roads are unpaved and there are no signs.
Keep a restrained manner: for nearby villages this is a place of memory. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Come in the morning while the light is soft.
- Check the forecast, as rain makes the approach slippery.
- Take your litter away with you.
Getting there
- The last stretch runs along a dirt road that softens after rain.
- Plan the visit together with nearby stops, as there is no dedicated transport here.
