The Red Sakdari takes its name from the colour of the stone: the walls are built of local reddish tuff, and on a green slope the building is visible from afar. Sakdari in these parts means a village church.
It stands in the vanished village of Sapitiakhsho, near Burnasheti, west of Tsalka. The village itself is also met under a second name, Sabidakhcha, and both forms live on in local speech. Of all the churches in this district it draws the most visitors, who come for the view and for the church itself.
There are no regular services and people come freely. The last stretch of the climb is steep, and cattle graze by the walls, so the gate is worth closing behind you.
