The Kviratskhoveli Chapel stands in Velistsikhe, a large village in the Gurjaani Municipality. Kviratskhoveli is the Georgian name for the Resurrection of Christ, so in Russian such churches are referred to as churches or chapels of the Resurrection.
Velistsikhe itself is considered one of the oldest and largest settlements in Kakheti. The village lies on the Alazani Plain, on the banks of the Chermiskhevi River, along the road from Telavi to Bakurtsikhe, at an altitude of approximately 380 meters. According to the 2014 census, 4,508 people lived here; Gurjaani is approximately twelve kilometers from here.
There is no specific history of the chapel itself in open sources: no date or information about the parish, so these will not be included in the description. Dedications bearing the name Kviratskhoveli are common in Kakheti: neighboring villages have their own churches dedicated to the Resurrection, dating from the late Middle Ages to the 17th century.
