The church of Saint George with the qualifier Kharistavi is recorded under Cheremi but stands noticeably apart: the main cluster of village churches lies some six kilometres to the west. The qualifier appears to be a family or local name: such additions in Kakheti usually point to the family that maintained a church or to a locality.
The place is open and little frequented: fields all around, the nearest buildings far off, and few landmarks on the way. Cheremi itself, with about eight church buildings, lies to the west on the old road from Kakheti towards Tbilisi. East of here the land drops towards the Iori valley.
The road is unpaved and turns soft in rain, so drive in dry weather and preferably not alone: the spot is deserted. The church keeps no fixed schedule and can be approached freely. Dress with shoulders and knees covered.
