The Bzianebi sakvdari stands in the south-western part of Matani and completes the round of church buildings in the village: nine here, more than in any other village in the area. The word sakvdari means a church altar and, by extension, the church building itself.
Bzianebi here is probably the name of a locality or a quarter. Matani stretches along the river west of Akhmeta, and its buildings remain in different parts: Damasti in the lower one, the Saint Marine complex in the north, Akhali Khati and this sakvdari in the west, the churches of Saint Nino and Saint George with the chapel of the Virgin in the middle. To see it all, allow half a day.
The building keeps no fixed schedule and can be approached freely. The final stretch is unpaved. Dress with shoulders and knees covered and treat the structure with care.
