The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. In Georgia this feast is called Mariamoba and kept at the end of August, and on such days the villages of the Alazani valley come alive most visibly.
Vazisubani is an old Kakhetian settlement with several historical communities, each of which kept its own church. Hence the density of buildings: this church stands on the northern edge, while others lie to the south and in the centre. The village name translates literally as the vine quarter, which explains why autumn is the better season to come.
The grounds are open at any time, convenient for anyone moving through the valley without a fixed schedule. Walking all the churches of Vazisubani is realistic in half a day.
