Legvani Lake, also known as Lake Levani, lies near the village of the same name in Kharagauli Municipality, northern Imereti, at around 500 metres elevation. It's the largest lake in the Kharagauli district and one of those spots in northern Imereti that travellers combine into a single lake-hopping route, brought together in the guide to the high-mountain lakes of Imereti. Among the natural attractions of Imereti, Legvani stands out for its characteristics: depths reaching the regionally rare 11 metres, and water clear enough to see the lake bed at significant depth.
The water in Legvani Lake is notably clean, making it one of the district's most appealing spots for photography and summer swimming. Its glacial origins show in water that stays cold even in summer. In spring, snowmelt from the Leckhumi Range feeds the lake, raising its level and producing visible outflow.
Around the lake stretch alpine meadows and deciduous forests typical of this elevation. In summer, local farmers' cattle graze nearby, and in autumn the meadows fill with colour. The tree line here isn't as high as at more elevated lakes, so Legvani sits in a relatively gentle and accessible landscape.
There's almost no tourist infrastructure nearby, no campsites or cafés, just wild shores and nature. This makes Legvani Lake a good choice for those seeking an authentic experience and tent camping. In July and August the water warms to comfortable levels, allowing cautious swimming in the warmest weeks. One of the nearest large lakes in the same direction, Gulouri, fits neatly into the same route.
