A village church about which little is known: the dedication has not survived and the church is simply called by the village name. We will not invent a saint for it.
Vartsikhe is known above all for its fortress: the place has been settled for a long time, and ancient authors mentioned a stronghold here long before the present place names took shape. The village lies in the Rioni valley, on the level part of western Imereti. The age of the church is not established and is not linked to the antiquity of the fortress: these are different things and should not be mixed. Vartsikhe holds other religious buildings too, including a pair of churches in one yard.
The parish is rural and services are infrequent. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The village is on level ground and the road is easy in any weather.
