A church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. In Georgian the feast is called midzineba, literally a falling asleep, and it falls at the end of August, which in rural Georgia coincides with the start of the harvest.
The church stands paired with the church of John, less than seventy metres apart, and on the ground this is almost certainly one yard with two buildings. Which of them is older cannot be established: no century is named for either. Vartsikhe holds other churches as well, including the White Church under construction and a church whose dedication has not survived.
The church is in use and the parish is rural. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The yard is open and both churches can be seen in one visit.
