For a long time, there were two synagogues in Sachkhere. Registration documents from 1944 describe both buildings: one measuring 110 square meters, the other 100 square meters, both built in 1903 and located approximately three hundred meters apart.
A review by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress dates the surviving stone synagogue to the 19th century and specifies that the community met there until 1990. The building has now been renovated, but is no longer used as a synagogue.
Sachkhere should be viewed with this history in mind. In 1873, approximately 628 Jews lived here; by 1939, more than 1,500, making the Jewish community one of the most prominent in Imereti.
