The church is dedicated to St Matrona and belongs to the Russian Orthodox tradition. For an Imereti village that is unusual: almost all rural churches of the district are Georgian, and parishes like this are met only rarely here.
Partskhanakanevi lies south of Tskaltubo, on the plain between the town and Kutaisi. The village keeps three shrines: besides this one there is the church of St George a kilometre and a half away and a church known as Midori on the western edge.
There are no regular services, and the order of a visit is settled by arrangement. The usual etiquette applies: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside.
