A parish church of Saint George, known by the Akhaldaba quarter. The word translates from Georgian as a new settlement: akhali is new and daba a small town. Names with this root are common in Georgia and almost always denote a part of a village that appeared later than the main one.
The quarter belongs to Gadmoghma Tskaltsitela, a village on the Tskaltsitela river north of Kutaisi, on the road towards Tkibuli and Ambrolauri. This is another religious building of the village: the first, a church of the Holy Archangels, stands nearby. The century of building is not established.
The church is in use, the parish is rural and services are infrequent. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. Both village churches are easy to see in one trip.
