Gateway to Georgia - Verkhny Lars checkpoint to be reconstructed
The best way to travel in Georgia is by car. A road trip is an opportunity to visit the sea and mountains, medieval temples and fortresses.
Sightseeing starts right at the border crossing - it is the checkpoint "Upper Lars".
The checkpoint "Upper Lars" is known to everyone who has ever entered Georgia from Russia by car.
Motorists stood in the traffic jam before the border inspection for days. The queue of cars could be seen from space. The only land route from Russia to Armenia also lies through "Upper Lars".
The good news for motorists is that Upper Lars will be reconstructed.
The work is scheduled to start in 2021. The number of lanes for trucks will increase from 4 to 13, and for cars from 10 to 26.
During the period of works the point will be functioning. It is not reported whether the road behind the checkpoint will be widened.
