Queen Tamara of Georgia
Arte, a German-French TV channel about history, culture and art, shot a story clip about the iconic Queen Tamara of Georgia.
Giorgi Kalandia - art historian, director of the Palace of Art in Georgia - took part in the shooting of the story. He told about the cave monastery Vardzia, where the queen disappeared, as the legend says.
The name of Queen Tamara (1166 - 1213) is associated with the prosperity of the country, called the "Golden Age of Georgia".
Tamara came from the Bagration family, she is the daughter of George III and Queen Burdukhan.
Tamara followed in the footsteps of King David IV the Builder and continued his creative and enlightening activities.
The queen helped to spread Christianity among Georgians, promoted the erection of monastery complexes and temples. Tamara the Great is called in Russian hagiography. In Orthodoxy she is numbered among the saints.
