Georgia's food security: is everything stable? !
Georgia is in a stable situation regarding food security, said Levan Silagava, Executive Director of the Association of Grain and Flour Producers of Georgia. The expert stressed that wheat stocks in the country provide a two-month supply, which complies with UN recommendations.
Silagava also stressed the stability of the situation on the world and regional markets, noting the unhindered import of grain and flour to Georgia. Despite widespread concerns about the possible termination of wheat imports from Russia, which is the main supplier of grain, Silagava assured that the existing mechanisms ensure stability and diversity of supplies.
The expert noted that in addition to Russia, Georgia maintains contact with several neighboring countries, such as Romania, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, considering them as alternative markets. Silagava assured that in case of any possible supply disruptions, Georgia is ready to switch to other sources immediately, ensuring market stability.
This optimistic view of Georgia's food situation underscores the importance of maintaining supply diversification and readiness for changes in world markets, which contributes to the sustainability and reliability of the country's food sector.
