🍾 Georgian wine "Asuretuli Shala" has been given the status of an appellation of origin.

📝 This information was shared on the website of Sakpatent. In Georgia, the registration of geographical designations and names of places of origin is carried out by Sakpatent, the National Center for Intellectual Property of Georgia. These statuses are assigned to special Georgian products.

At the moment, together with Asuretuli Shala, a total of 64 geographical designations and names of places of origin are protected in Georgia. The state register contains information about Khvanchkar, chacha, sulguni, churchkhel, Borjomi and other unique Georgian products.

🍷 In the near future, on the basis of the Association Agreement between Georgia, the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Association and their member states, Sakpatent will apply for the protection of the appellation of origin of Asuretuli Shala on the territory of the EU. A similar application will be made with respect to other geographical designations and non-names of places of origin registered in the current year.

The geographical indication and the name of the place of origin provide the consumer with information about the origin of the goods and the unique characteristics associated with the place of origin, whose characteristic natural conditions and traditional production knowledge of the local population make each such product unique.

🍇 In addition, Sakpatent will take appropriate measures to protect new geographical designations on the territory of Ukraine, Switzerland and the United Kingdom on the basis of mutual recognition and protection agreements signed between Georgia and these countries.
