Georgia has reached a new milestone by becoming a member of the high-ranking Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). An important decision was made at the 43rd FAO Conference, which was held in Rome from July 1 to July 7. Now Georgia, proudly representing its interests, will actively participate in the work of the FAO for two years from July 7, 2023 to June 30, 2025, as reported by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.

The FAO Council consists of 49 member States of the organization, which are elected every two years at the FAO Conference. This executive body makes important decisions related to food and agriculture, work programs, budget and administrative management. Georgia's accession to the ranks of the FAO Council members confirms its desire to actively interact in the global arena to support food security and agricultural development.

Georgia's participation in the FAO is of great importance for the country, as it gets the opportunity to actively influence decisions and develop strategies in the field of the food sector. As you know, Georgia has unique natural resources and rich agricultural potential, which can be used for sustainable development of agriculture and ensuring food security in the region.

Georgia's accession to the FAO Council is proof of the recognition and value of the country's efforts in the field of agriculture, as well as its desire for interaction and cooperation with other FAO member States. This opens up new prospects for Georgia in the development of the agro-industrial complex, increasing productivity and export potential, as well as the exchange of best practices and experience in the field of food security.

Taking into account its membership in the FAO Council, Georgia has the opportunity to actively participate in the development and implementation of international and regional initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of agriculture, combating hunger and malnutrition, as well as sustainable management of natural resources. This is a significant achievement that highlights Georgia's growing role in the international arena and its desire to cooperate with the international community to ensure sustainable development and well-being.
