A large increase in cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian route - by 77%

Cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian Route (TMTM) showed impressive growth in the first half of 2023, increasing by 77.2% compared to the previous year and reaching more than 1.3 million tons. This information was announced at a meeting of the heads of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan with local shippers and exporters, as reported by Sputnik Azerbaijan.

The round table focused on the discussion of further cooperation and the creation of favorable conditions for freight transportation by TMTM, which passes through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and then to European countries. The participants of the meeting, including representatives of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), discussed many issues related to the development of this transport route.

The important points of discussion were the reduction of cargo delivery times, the improvement of the process of informing about the location of rolling stock, the removal of administrative barriers and the expansion of port infrastructure, as well as other aspects contributing to the further development of TMTM. In order to effectively pass cargo flows and promptly resolve emerging issues, a joint virtual dispatch center was created, which is successfully functioning, as reported in the press release of KTZ.

Taking into account the direct contacts established between the shippers and the railway companies of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, it can be concluded that the issues arising in the process of cargo transportation can be resolved more effectively. Such interaction stimulates cooperation and facilitates the smooth transportation of goods.

This growth of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian route is an important signal for regional economic development. TMTM provides a unique opportunity for various countries to use this corridor as an alternative route for cargo delivery. This contributes to the strengthening of trade ties and the development of economic relations between the various states participating in this project.
