Besarion Gabashvili Park stands on a hilltop above Kutaisi, on Vazha-Pshavela Street, and is named after the 18th-century Georgian poet and diplomat Besarion (Besiki) Gabashvili. You can reach it by cable car, built in 1961, from the lower station near the White Bridge, or by hiking up the hill.
This is a classic Soviet amusement park: a Ferris wheel, carousels, a children's train, and other venerable rides. Travelers have mixed impressions: the panoramic view from the Ferris wheel is almost universally praised, but many also honestly comment on the shabby condition of the equipment, and not all the rides are operational.
