Guria is known for its tea plantations, picturesque villages, and natural beauty, untouched by mass tourism.
Gurians are renowned throughout Georgia for their sharp wit and unique sense of humor—and this is felt in every corner of the region.
It's convenient to travel leisurely here: visit small villages, stop at viewpoints, and discover Georgia without the rush and bustle of tourists.
Lanchkhuti is the heart of Georgian tea growing.
The hills here are covered with rows of tea bushes, and the air is filled with the scent of subtropical greenery.
The municipality is calm and quiet — real rural Georgia, where time flows differently.
A great place for those who want to see the country beyond the tourist trails.
Ozurgeti is the main town of the region — lively and small.
Old churches, estates and nature reserves are scattered around it.
The Gurian people are known throughout Georgia for their sharp wit and distinctive sense of humor — and it is here, in Ozurgeti, that this character is felt most clearly.
The most mountainous of Guria’s three municipalities.
Chokhatauri is surrounded by forested ridges and deep gorges.
Ancient towers, monasteries and rural communities have been preserved here, living much as they did centuries ago.
An ideal place for slow travel and conversations with local residents.
💬 Guria consists of three municipalities: Ozurgeti (the administrative center), Lanchkhuti, and Chokhatauri. Home to only about 140,000 people, it is one of the smallest and most distinctive regions of western Georgia.
💬 Ureki is home to the world's only magnetic sand, with a magnetite content of up to 70%, capable of creating a low-intensity magnetic field. It acts as a painkiller and anti-inflammatory, and the beach is completely free and publicly accessible.
💬 In Ozurgeti, there's the Gurieli Palace, built in 1873. In Lanchkhuti, there's the picturesque Orkari Canyon, and in Chokhatauri, there's the high-mountain resort of Bakhmaro, at an altitude of 2,000 meters, with pine forests.
💬 The best beach season is July and August, when the water warms up to 25–27 degrees Celsius and the sand's magnetic properties are enhanced by the heat. The mountainous area is attractive year-round thanks to its combination of maritime and mountain climates.
💬 In the village of Shukhuti (Lanchkhuti Municipality), every Easter, the game "Lelo" is played—an ancient Georgian rugby game with virtually no rules, where teams compete for a ball weighing about 16 kg. This is the only place in Georgia where this tradition has survived to this day.
