You cannot bring drugs, explosives, counterfeit money or counterfeit goods into Georgia, and weapons or ammunition only with a government permit. Why

  1. Narcotic and psychotropic substances are banned in Georgia in any amount.
  2. Medicines containing them, such as codeine or tramadol, are allowed only with a prescription.
  3. Weapons and ammunition can be brought in only with a permit from Georgian authorities.
  4. When flying in, you can bring personal goods up to 30 kg and worth up to 3,000 GEL duty-free.

Details

If you bring more than the allowance or goods for sale, you must declare them and pay duty. Separate duty-free limits apply to alcohol and tobacco. There is no limit on cash, but amounts above the equivalent of 30,000 GEL must be declared.

Tip

If you take prescription medicines, bring the prescription or a doctor's note, ideally with an English translation.

What may differ

The duty-free limit is lower when you arrive by land or sea than by air. If you have lived abroad for six months or more, the limit is higher.

Common misconception

Ordinary cold and pain tablets can be brought in without any questions.

What actually happens

Some of them contain codeine, which is strictly controlled in Georgia. Check the ingredients and carry a prescription.
