Batumi Botanical Garden: how to get there and what to see?
The garden at Green Cape, plant zones and routes.
Short answer
Batumi Botanical Garden is at Green Cape, about 9 kilometres north of the centre, reached by minibus, city bus or taxi. Founded in 1912, it spreads over a hillside above the sea and is divided into zones with plants from around the world, from Himalayan and Japanese to Australian and South American. Allow half a day; entry is paid.
Why
- The garden was founded by botanist Andrey Krasnov.
- There are many slopes, so wear comfortable shoes.
- An electric car runs around the grounds, handy for children and older visitors.
Details
Come in the morning before the heat and crowds. Climbing up from the lower entrance by the sea is harder than walking down from the top, so many start at the top.
Tip
Bring water and comfortable shoes; the grounds are large and hilly.
What may differ
The garden is hot and busy in summer, nicer in spring and autumn, and paths are slippery after rain.
