What is there to see and do in Kvariati?
Clear sea, a pebble beach and snorkelling by the Turkish border.
Short answer
Kvariati is a small resort village between Gonio and Sarpi, about 15 kilometres south of Batumi. People come for some of the clearest water on the Adjara coast, a pebble beach and snorkelling by the rocks. Gonio fortress and the border village of Sarpi are nearby, and city bus 16 runs from Batumi.
Why
- The beach has large pebbles, so water shoes help.
- It's less crowded in summer than Batumi's beaches.
- Kvariati has many guesthouses and small hotels.
Details
Bring a snorkel mask, as fish are easy to spot by the rocks. In the evening, walk to Sarpi or have fish for dinner at a local cafe.
Tip
Bring water shoes; the pebbles are large and easier to walk on in shoes.
What may differ
The water goes murky in storms and is clearest on calm days.
