How do you get to Georgia?

By air, overland from neighbouring countries and by sea.

Short answer

The easiest way to reach Georgia is by air: there are international airports in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi. Overland, you can enter from Turkey at Sarpi, from Armenia at Sadakhlo or Bavra, and from Russia at Upper Lars. By sea, mainly cargo-passenger ferries serve the ports of Batumi and Poti.

Why

  1. Three international airports serve flights from Europe, Asia and the CIS.
  2. Sarpi on the Turkish border is one of the country's busiest land crossings.
  3. In recent years the Azerbaijani side has restricted passenger crossings on the land border with Azerbaijan.

Details

From Armenia there are trains, buses and minibuses to Tbilisi, and from Turkey it is easy to cross at Sarpi into Batumi. Before travelling via the Azerbaijan border, check whether the crossing is open to passengers.
