How do you get from Batumi to Borjomi?
Train with a change, minibus or the mountain road over Goderdzi.
Short answer
Most people travel from Batumi to Borjomi via Kutaisi and Khashuri: by train or minibus to Khashuri, then a minibus to Borjomi, about 5-6 hours in total. In summer you can drive a shorter, scenic route through mountain Adjara and over the Goderdzi Pass, though part of the road is difficult. Direct Batumi-Borjomi minibuses don't run every day, so check the timetable at the bus station.
Why
- The Goderdzi road is closed by snow in winter.
- Khashuri to Borjomi is about 30 kilometres, with frequent minibuses.
- On the Goderdzi route you can stop at Khulo and at Rabati fortress in Akhaltsikhe.
Details
If going by train, take a morning service so you catch the minibus in Khashuri in daylight. The Goderdzi mountain road needs a car with good ground clearance.
Tip
If going via Goderdzi, fill up in advance and check whether the pass is open.
What may differ
The mountain road over Goderdzi is open mainly in summer and early autumn.
