How can foreigners get married in Georgia, and how much does it cost?

Documents, witnesses, cost and recognition at home.

Short answer

Foreigners can register a marriage in Georgia at a Public Service Hall or Wedding House, often on the day documents are submitted. You need passports with notarised translations, proof of legal stay in Georgia, two adult witnesses and, if previously married, proof of divorce. Registration without a formal ceremony is free; a ceremony costs extra.

Why

  1. Marriage registration is carried out by the Public Service Development Agency.
  2. The minimum age is 18, and registration by proxy is not allowed.
  3. Georgia and Russia are both parties to the Hague Convention, so an apostilled marriage is recognised in Russia.

Details

For your marriage to be recognised at home, order an apostille and translation of the certificate, also available at the Public Service Hall. Ceremony costs depend on the venue and day of the week; the agency publishes current fees.
