What is there to see and do in Tbilisi?
The Old Town, fortress, churches and a trip to Mtskheta.
Short answer
In Tbilisi, start with the Old Town: the Abanotubani sulfur baths, Narikala fortress with its cable car, Metekhi church and the Bridge of Peace. Then walk Rustaveli Avenue, ride the funicular up Mtatsminda and see Sameba Holy Trinity Cathedral. For a half-day trip, don't miss ancient Mtskheta with Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.
Why
- The Old Town grew up around the sulfur springs from which Tbilisi developed.
- Mtskheta's monuments are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- Narikala and Mtatsminda offer the best views of the city.
Details
Two or three days are enough to get to know the city. In the evening, the Fabrika area and the Dry Bridge, with its weekend flea market, are worth a visit.
