How far over the speed limit can you go in Georgia, and what are the fines?
Speed limits, the no-fine margin and fine amounts.
Short answer
In Georgia you are fined for exceeding the limit by more than 15 km/h: under amendments passed by parliament in June 2026, 15-30 km/h over costs 50 GEL, 30-50 km/h over 100 GEL, and more than 50 km/h over 300 GEL. Standard limits are 60 km/h in towns, 90 km/h outside towns and up to 110 km/h on motorways unless signs say otherwise. Cameras operate around the clock, and violations also cost points on your licence.
Why
- Fines are set by Georgia's Administrative Offences Code.
- In May 2026 the fine for 15-40 km/h over rose to 100 GEL, but in June parliament reduced fines and changed the scale.
- Licences carry 100 points, which are deducted for serious and repeat violations.
Details
Camera fines are issued to the vehicle's plate; for a rental, the rental company will pass it on. Fines can be checked and paid on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website.
