The Gocha Iremadze House Museum is a collection set up in a lived in house: the setting, the utensils, the tools, the documents and the family photographs. Adjarian houses are also interesting for the building itself: the timber, the carved details, the veranda looking down the slope. The owner shows and explains everything, so the visit turns out personal.
The house stands on the slopes between Batumi and Chakvi, above the coastal highway and away from the resort strip. Around it are mandarin orchards, forest and a view of the sea from above. Makhinjauri is a few kilometres away and central Batumi about twenty minutes.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. It is better to arrange the visit in advance, and the first half of the day is the easier time. Combine the trip with the botanical garden and Chakvi.
Tips
- Arrange the visit in advance, the house is lived in
- Combine the trip with the botanical garden in the same direction
- Come by car, the road up the slope is steep
How to get there
- North from Batumi along the coastal highway, about twenty minutes by car
- The train and minibuses run to Makhinjauri, beyond that you need a taxi
