Planning a trip to Georgia and want to stay connected? Mobile service and internet work отлично in this hospitable country, and local operators offer convenient plans for tourists. In this article, we’ll explain Georgia’s mobile operators, where to buy a SIM card, how to activate mobile internet, and what Wi-Fi options are available. We’ll also share a few practical tips so you can use mobile service and the internet comfortably while traveling around Georgia.

📶 Main mobile operators in Georgia

Georgia has three main mobile operators: MagtiCom, Silknet (Geocell), and Cellfie Mobile. All of them offer tourist SIM cards with good conditions for calls and mobile data.

🟥 MagtiCom

One of the most popular and reliable operators in the country.

  • 📡 Coverage: about 90% of Georgia’s territory
  • 🔢 Number codes: 591, 595, 598, 599
  • 💬 Often considered the best choice for stable service and strong internet quality, especially in the mountains and remote regions.
  • 🏢 Stores/offices: 50 nationwide, including 13 in Tbilisi and 37 in other regions.
  • 🛎️ Support: 24/7 hotline, online chat, and service points in Public Service Hall

🟦 Silknet (Geocell)

The second most popular operator, actively developing its infrastructure.

  • 📡 Coverage: about 80% of the country
  • 🔢 Number codes: 577, 593, 555, 557, 558
  • 📶 Good connection in cities and tourist areas, quality mobile internet
  • 🏢 Stores/offices: 17 offices in Tbilisi
  • 🛎️ Support: hotline and a convenient online form on the websit

🟨 Cellfie Mobile (formerly Beeline)

Cellfie Mobile

An operator with affordable plans and the rollout of 5G in selected regions.

  • 📡 Coverage: about 50% of the territory, but the network is expanding активно
  • 🔢 Number codes: 592, 597, 574, 579, 571
  • 💰 Often offers attractive plans for tourists and short trips
  • 🏢 Stores/offices: 32 nationwide (12 in Tbilisi, 20 in regions)
  • 🛎️ Support: 24/7 hotline and online chat

✨ Your choice depends on your route, needs, and budget. If you’re heading to mountainous areas, MagtiCom is usually the best pick. For city walks and saving money, Silknet or Cellfie can also work well.

🛒 Where to buy a SIM card

Buying a SIM card in Georgia is quick, simple, and convenient. Operators offer special tourist starter packs that you can purchase right after arrival.

📍 Where SIM cards are sold:

  • Airports — operator kiosks are often available in arrival areas, so you can connect on the spot.
  • Official Magti / Silknet / Cellfie stores — easy to find in any city.
  • Shopping malls, supermarkets, and tourist streets — especially in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Kutaisi.
  • Kiosks and self-service terminals (more common for top-ups and activation, but sometimes for SIM issuance too).

🪪 Do you need a passport?

Yes. When buying a SIM card, you’ll be asked for your international passport or an ID card. Registration takes just a couple of minutes.

📦 Which plans are best for tourists?

Operators offer tourist starter packs with data, minutes, and SMS. For example:

  • Magti: “Traveller” — 10 GB of data + calls to local numbers
  • Silknet: “Holiday Plan” — 7 GB + minutes + unlimited social media
  • Cellfie: budget-friendly packs with 5–15 GB and flexible activation

💡 Plans can be activated in-store or via the mobile app.

🛎️ Services and support

If you have questions, you can contact:

  • operator offices (in every city)
  • online chat or the hotline
  • Public Service Halls (if there’s one nearby)

✨ We recommend activating mobile internet on the day you buy your SIM—it’s fast, convenient, and saves you from hunting for Wi-Fi on the road.

🌐 Mobile internet in Georgia

Internet in Georgia is affordable, fast, and generally stable—especially in major cities. All three operators offer flexible data packages for both short trips and longer stays.

📊 Approximate prices for data packages:

  • 5 GB — about 5–7 GEL
  • 10 GB — about 8–12 GEL
  • 20 GB — about 15–20 GEL
  • Unlimited (with some operators) — from 25 GEL and up

💡 Prices vary by operator and where you activate the plan. The best deals are often available through the operator’s app or official website.

🧩 What plans typically include:

  • 3G/4G/5G mobile data
  • Minutes for local calls (usually 100+)
  • Unlimited traffic for social media in some plans (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp)
  • Free access to operator apps

⚙️ How to activate mobile data:

  • 📱 In the operator’s store—staff will set everything up
  • 📲 Via the operator’s app (Magti, Silknet, Cellfie)
  • 📞 Using USSD short codes (e.g., *110# or *100#—depends on the operator)

📶 Coverage notes:

  • MagtiCom — best speed and stability outside cities
  • Silknet — good speeds in cities; possible dropouts in the mountains
  • Cellfie Mobile — decent in populated areas; 5G is being rolled out

✨ In Georgia, you can stay online almost everywhere—from the streets of Tbilisi to wine villages in Kakheti 🍷

📱 Wi-Fi in Georgia

Wi-Fi is widely available in Georgia—from cafés to central city streets. If you don’t want to buy mobile data right away, you can rely on free networks at first, especially in Tbilisi and Batumi.

📍 Where to find free Wi-Fi:

  • 🏨 Hotels and hostels — usually included
  • ☕ Cafés and restaurants — often provide a password on request
  • 🛍️ Malls and supermarkets — Carrefour, Galleria Tbilisi, etc.
  • 🏙️ Public places — central Tbilisi has an open network called “Tbilisi Loves You”
  • 🚍 Some minibuses and intercity buses also offer Wi-Fi (often unstable)

📶 How stable is Wi-Fi?

  • In cities, it’s usually fast and stable (especially in cafés and hotels)
  • In mountains and small villages, Wi-Fi may be unavailable or unreliable
  • Free networks can be overloaded—fine for messaging, not ideal for video calls

📲 Useful apps:

  • Instabridge — Wi-Fi hotspot map for Georgia
  • WiFi Map — passwords and user reviews
  • Speedtest — check your connection quality

💡 If the internet is crucial for you, it’s better to buy a SIM card with a data package—especially for travel between cities.

💳 Tips for mobile service and internet

To keep your trip comfortable and fully connected, here are a few practical tips:

💡 How to top up your balance:

  • via operator apps (fast and convenient)
  • via PayBox terminals and similar kiosks (in shops, near metro stations, in malls)
  • with cash at operator offices

📲 How to check remaining data:

  • in the app—visible right after login
  • via USSD codes (e.g., *110#—depends on the operator)
  • via your account on the website

🧾 Can you use eSIM?

Yes! Magti and Silknet support eSIM—you can activate it in-store or via the app.
It’s great if you want to keep your main SIM active.

🛠️ What to do if your SIM doesn’t work:

  • restart your phone
  • check network settings
  • visit the nearest operator office
  • or use online chat / the hotline

📶 Good to know:

  • It’s best to activate mobile data right away, especially if you arrive at night
  • In rural areas and mountains, MagtiCom usually performs best
  • Cellfie Mobile is a good option if you want to save money and mostly stay within city coverage

✨ A little preparation—and you’ll be connected anywhere, from Old Tbilisi to the beaches of Batumi.

🌍 Mobile coverage in Georgia (by territory)

If you plan to travel beyond the cities—into the mountains, to the sea, or into rural areas—coverage matters. Here are approximate territory coverage figures:

📡 Operator coverage:

  • MagtiCom — up to 90%
📌 Best for mountains, villages, and remote regions
  • Silknet (Geocell) — around 80%
📌 Great in cities and popular tourist zones
  • Cellfie Mobile — about 50%
📌 Works well in larger populated areas; 5G is available in some locations

💡 Even if you choose a budget option, consider your route: for mountains and highways, Magti is usually the safest choice; for city stays, any operator can work.

✨ That’s it—you’re now fully equipped and won’t lose touch with the world even in the most beautiful corners of Georgia!

We hope this guide helped you understand how mobile service and internet work in Georgia 📱

Now you know which operator to choose, where to buy a SIM card, and how to activate mobile data so you can stay connected throughout your trip.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask in the comments. And if you’ve already used one of the operators in Georgia, share your experience! Your review will help other travelers make the right choice.

    📶 Magti — один из лидеров по покрытию сети по всей стране, включая маленькие городки и трассы в горах;
    📶 Silknet / Geocell — очень популярный среди местных и туристов за счёт стабильного 4G интернета в городах;
📶 Cellfie Mobile —

    ✔️ где купить SIM‑карту (в аэропорту, в офисах операторов или даже в некоторых супермаркетах);
    ✔️ как быстро активировать номер и подключить интернет прямо через приложение или USSD‑команды;

This guide is incredibly helpful, especially when planning a trip to more remote areas of Georgia. Knowing that MagtiCom has a 90% coverage makes it a great option for staying connected in the mountains. I'm glad to hear about the availability of tourist packages with internet and calls. It's also useful to know that SIM cards can be easily purchased at various locations like airports and supermarkets. However, I wonder if there are any data speed differences among the operators, particularly in busy city areas.

Is it possible to purchase a tourist package with both internet and calls immediately at the airport, or is it better to wait and buy it in the city for a better deal?

Is there a big difference in SIM card prices at the airport compared to regular stores or supermarkets? Also, do any operators cater specifically to tourists with family-friendly plans?

I have tried both Cellfie and Magti, and in my experience Cellfie is much cheaper and offers a premium customer service experience. What is my evidence?

    1. Cellfie is 50% cheaper - it costs 6-7 lars to purchase the card, and the tariffs are much cheaper - e.g. one day 20GB on cellfie is 2 lars, 2GB on Magti is 3 lars - its a no-brainer

    2. There is a myth that Magti offers better coverage. 3 days ago I purchased 5G package for 3 days, could not connect to the internet, spent hours on the phone with customer services, changed settings on my phone - frankly, almost flied to the moon. with 0 result. then one of the CS reps told me that they had most stations down in the Kutaisi area where I was staying (???). When I asked for a refund, I was told I can apply for one at teh end of the paid for term. I did not use one bit of the internet and I called them in 3 days - was told that since I moved away from teh area I cannot ask for the refund. Anyway, 15 lars totally wasted - but it is not about the money. It is about the fact that I did not get any service for what I paid for and the attitude is that it is OK for me to pay this cost.

    3. Cellfie offers just as good internet, and if you sign up for 3 months unlimited you will pay half or less of what Magti is charging

I hope this post will encourage Magti to improve their cervices to match their claims of superiority

  • F
    Faith Hoffman
Is it really true that Cellfie Mobile is expanding to 5G while having only 50% coverage? It seems like a strange move to launch a new technology when the basic network isn't fully in place. Wouldn't it be better for them to focus on improving coverage first?
