How long the journey takes
The guide figure comes from Georgian Railway's announcement of 6 August 2026: about four hours between Tbilisi and Batumi. This is not the exact duration of every future train. Door to door, from your address to your accommodation in the other city, will take longer: add both city journeys, waiting and boarding.
Is there a night train or a regular local train
Night departures can be seasonal. For example, the carrier's announcement of extra summer trains in 2026 (in Georgian) limited the night pair 812/811 to 16 June to 30 September. That does not confirm a night train in October. Choose your date and check late departures separately.
In the Georgian Railway timetable, the direct Tbilisi - Batumi pairs are Stadler KISS fast trains. No separate direct local "electric train Tbilisi - Batumi" is listed. Local routes in other cities should not be mistaken for a direct train from Tbilisi.
Ticket prices and classes
For 20.10.2026, the system shows second class from Tbilisi at 35 lari and first class on the evening No. 804 at 75 lari. Prices were checked on 18.10.2026. For another date and class the amount may differ. The carrier's tariff page mentions fees separately, so the price in the price list and the final order total may differ.
Georgian Railway uses second class, first class and business class categories. The group travel terms call them Economy, first class and business class. Check whether a particular class is available on your train: the company's list of classes does not mean each one is on sale for every departure.
Compare tickets for the whole group, taking into account separate seats for children and the final total. If the class you want is not available, check another train or date first. A higher class does not by itself guarantee food, working Wi-Fi, a particular view from the window or a seat facing the direction of travel.
Choosing a seat and the carriage layout
Check whether the system offers seat selection for your chosen train. The sales screen offers the options Automatic selection and Selecting seats. Having this switch does not yet mean every seat can be chosen for free.
If a seat map is available, check the carriage, deck and seat number against it. Use the map for your chosen train only. Do not choose a ticket by a rule such as "the upper deck starts at seat number such-and-such": it may not apply to your train.
How to buy a ticket online on the official website
Open railway.ge and go to the ticket sales through the carrier's own link. This helps you avoid confusing the official service with a similar-looking advertising site.
- In the From field, choose the departure station, and in To, the arrival station. Check the direction: Tbilisi - Batumi or Batumi - Tbilisi.
- Enter the date and passengers, and search. Match the arrival time to your plans.
- Choose the train and an available class. If a seat map is offered, check the seats before moving on.
- Enter passenger details exactly as in their documents. Check the spelling of names, the document number and the child's details.
- Before paying, check the final total, the fees and the refund rules. Only complete the purchase after this check.
- Save the ticket so that it opens without internet access. Make sure you have saved the ticket itself, not just the bank's payment notification.

If there are no tickets or the payment fails
The Georgian Railway rules page says tickets can be bought 20 days before departure. For a specific date, go by the open sales calendar and the system's message. An empty search result does not explain the reason by itself: the date may not be open yet, seats may have sold out, or the search may have used the wrong stations.
If money has been taken but no ticket has appeared, do not pay for the same order again until you know its status. Check your orders in the service and contact the seller with the transaction number. Do not post your document number or bank details in comments.
Where the train leaves from and where to get off in Batumi
In the timetable on the carrier's website, the starting station is shown as Tbilisi-Pass. and the final station as Batumi-pass. When choosing a ticket, check the full station name, and before you travel, confirm the entrance and platform from your ticket and the departure board.

In Batumi, plan your onward route from the station on your ticket to your address. Do not build an unconfirmed "five minutes to the sea" into your plans: the journey depends on where you are staying and how you travel.
Which stops are on the way
If you want to get off at Ureki, Kobuleti or another intermediate station, check that your chosen train stops there before you buy. The older railway.ge files list Ureki and Kobuleti, but for your trip you need the route for your date.
A station name in a timetable does not always mean a passenger stop: some are technical points the train passes through. Do not count on getting off at an intermediate station just because it is listed in the table.
Documents and travelling with children
Under Georgian Railway's boarding rules (in Russian), you need a ticket and an ID document. For children under 14, the child's document is required when booking: a birth certificate or passport. Bring the documents the tickets were bought with.
One child under five travels free with a passenger, without a separate seat. A separate seat needs a child's ticket. For additional young children and for children aged five to ten, the carrier provides child tickets; from age ten, adult rules apply. We do not promise a specific discount without calculating the order.
Sales through the ticket system close ten minutes before departure. This is the sales deadline, not the recommended time to arrive at the station. With a child and suitcases, allow time to find the platform and board.
Luggage, pets and travelling with a wheelchair
For large luggage or a bicycle, check the permitted size, weight, where it goes and any extra charge in advance. Confirm the conditions for your chosen train with the carrier before you buy.
The carrier has separate rules for small pets and birds. You need a suitable carrier and a veterinary document. Do not read these percentages as a promise to refund the same share of every cost of the order: the rules separate the refund amount from commission fees. Before paying, check the refund procedure with the seller. Keep confirmation of your request and check that the money has actually arrived.
