On the edge of Kistauri stand the ruins of a church known by the name Naktsevi. The walls rise above the grass, there is no roof, and the building reads from its foundation and surviving masonry.
Kistauri belongs to Akhmeta Municipality and lies in the foothills, between the Alazani plain and wooded slopes. Vineyards and hayfields surround the village, and the church of John the Evangelist stands in Kistauri itself. Tourists rarely come this way, so the ruins are usually empty.
Take nothing away from the site, not even small fragments. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Allow no more than half an hour for the visit.
- Bring water, as there are no kiosks nearby.
- Watch your step in tall grass.
Getting there
- Navigate by the coordinates, as there may be no signs on the approach.
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
