The Besik Berishvili House Museum keeps the setting of a village house and the things gathered within the family: dishes, tools, textiles, photographs and documents. Mingrelian house museums show daily life without selection, and that is where their value lies. Everything is shown in person, with relatives or neighbours telling the story.
The house stands in Narazeni, a village in the Zugdidi municipality, on the plain south east of Zugdidi. Around it are orchards, fields and the roads towards Khobi and Senaki. A second house museum works in the same village, and the two are convenient to see together.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit through the village in advance. Combine the trip with Zugdidi and the Dadiani palace.
Tips
- Plan both village museums at once, they stand close together
- Combine the trip with Zugdidi and the Dadiani palace
- Check the way in the village, signposts may be missing
How to get there
- South east from Zugdidi along the local road, about twenty minutes by car
- Roughly two hours from Kutaisi via Samtredia and Senaki
