St. Nino brought Christianity to Georgia in the fourth century, and churches from Kakheti to Adjara carry her name. The church in Vale is one of them.

The town stands right by the Turkish border, and the religious picture here is noticeably more complex than the Georgian average: Orthodox and Catholic communities live side by side, and the Naohrebi church belongs to the same town. Against that background the church of St. Nino plays a clear role, gathering the Orthodox parishioners.

This is a town parish, and Sundays are noticeably busier. Dress soberly, with a headscarf for women at the entrance. The border location adds interest to the trip, though carrying a passport in these parts never hurts.
