In Tsinubani, on a gentle slope by the road, a church stands together with a devotional cross beside it. The cross is set in the open and catches the eye from the road before the church itself does.
Tsinubani is part of Akhaltsikhe Municipality, within historical Meskheti. The region long remained under Ottoman rule, so the population is mixed: Orthodox Georgians, Armenians, Catholics and Muslims live in neighbouring villages. Orchards and small fields surround Tsinubani, with slopes beyond them.
A headscarf is useful for women, as it may be required at the entrance. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Allow no more than half an hour for the visit.
- Bring water, as there are no kiosks nearby.
- Keep some cash for a donation, as there is no card terminal.
Getting there
- Navigate by the coordinates, as there may be no signs on the approach.
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
